Delicious Ceasar Salad and History
You might be wondering about Ceasar salad and history or, as it is more correctly spelt, Caesar salad. This is one of the most simple salad recipes ever but also one of the tastiest. Caesar Cardini invented Caesar salad in Tijuana, Mexico, in the 1920s and the dish because immediately popular.
Unlike some other salad recipes, modern Caesar salad is very similar to the first recipes. If you look at an older salad recipe, such as potato salad, you will see more changes along the timeline. In the old days, potato salad was made with oil, vinegar, salt and pepper, instead of mayonnaise.
There is not much different between the original dish and a modern Ceasar salad and history shows sometimes that there is no reason to alter a recipe that works. Some salad recipes have changed beyond recognition through the decades, such as Asian salad. A 1920s Asian salad would have been made with exotic fruits, nuts, and vinaigrette.
Modern Asian salads contain much different ingredients. The first Caesar salad recipe worked because it was so deliciously balanced and this recipe has stood the test of time.
Unique Caesar Salad
Today it is popular all over the world, in many kinds of eateries, from basic canteens to fine dining restaurants. Caesar salad is not a colorful salad, nor does it contain many different ingredients, but its unique and subtle flavor set this famous salad recipe apart from many others and a lot of people would choose it as their favorite salad recipe ever.
Main Course Salads
Caesar salad, along with cobb salad, were the first widely known main course salads. They were known both for home entertaining and in restaurants. Salads before the 1920s were usually served as side dishes not main courses, and they were usually just greens with a simple oil, vinegar, and salt dressing. A main course salad can be just as filling as another type of main course or entrée. What about serving a steak salad recipe? That is sure to satisfying your hunger. A warm chicken and bacon salad would do the same.
Many restaurants allow you to order Caesar salad in an appetizer-size portion or for an entrée. If you are not very hungry you might choose to order an appetizer portion and have that as your entrée. Main course salads are especially popular in the warmer months, but they are also nice during the cooler ones, especially if you have warm toppings like steak, chicken or even a scoop of warm potato salad. You can make your salad as big or as small as you like.
