Chutney is great for making ahead because you can keep it in a bottle in the refrigerator. Add a dollop of chutney to the side of your salad plate and use it as a dressing or sauce, or warm it up and pour it over slightly melted fontina or brie cheese. Chutney can also be served with pita bread and cheese, so if you are making a mixed salad plate, you can let people help themselves to the chutney and other condiments.
